Pomodoro Timer
The Pomodoro technique is a proven method for maintaining focus and avoiding burnout. FlowPlan has it built right in.
What is the Pomodoro technique?
The Pomodoro technique breaks your work into focused intervals:
- Work for 25 minutes (one "pomodoro")
- Short break for 5 minutes
- Repeat steps 1-2 four times
- Long break for 15-30 minutes
- Start again
This rhythm keeps your mind fresh and helps you maintain deep focus without exhaustion.
Using the timer
- Click Pomodoro in the navigation bar
- Click Start to begin a work session
- Focus on your task until the timer ends
- Take your break when prompted
- Continue with the next pomodoro
The timer shows a clear countdown and notifies you when each period ends.
Customizing your timer
Everyone works differently. In Settings, you can adjust:
| Setting | Default | What it controls |
|---|---|---|
| Work duration | 25 minutes | How long each focused work session lasts |
| Short break | 5 minutes | Break time between pomodoros |
| Long break | 15 minutes | Extended break after completing a full cycle |
Tips for effective Pomodoro sessions
- Remove distractions before starting β close unrelated tabs, silence notifications
- Choose one task per pomodoro β don't multitask
- Respect the break β actually step away from your screen during breaks
- If you finish early, review your work or prepare for the next task
- Track your sessions to understand how many pomodoros different types of tasks take
Tip: If 25 minutes feels too short or too long, experiment with different durations. Some people work better with 50-minute sessions and 10-minute breaks.
