Pomodoro Timer

The Pomodoro technique is a proven method for maintaining focus and avoiding burnout. FlowPlan has it built right in.

What is the Pomodoro technique?

The Pomodoro technique breaks your work into focused intervals:

  1. Work for 25 minutes (one "pomodoro")
  2. Short break for 5 minutes
  3. Repeat steps 1-2 four times
  4. Long break for 15-30 minutes
  5. Start again

This rhythm keeps your mind fresh and helps you maintain deep focus without exhaustion.

Using the timer

  1. Click Pomodoro in the navigation bar
  2. Click Start to begin a work session
  3. Focus on your task until the timer ends
  4. Take your break when prompted
  5. Continue with the next pomodoro

The timer shows a clear countdown and notifies you when each period ends.

Customizing your timer

Everyone works differently. In Settings, you can adjust:

Setting Default What it controls
Work duration 25 minutes How long each focused work session lasts
Short break 5 minutes Break time between pomodoros
Long break 15 minutes Extended break after completing a full cycle

Tips for effective Pomodoro sessions

  • Remove distractions before starting β€” close unrelated tabs, silence notifications
  • Choose one task per pomodoro β€” don't multitask
  • Respect the break β€” actually step away from your screen during breaks
  • If you finish early, review your work or prepare for the next task
  • Track your sessions to understand how many pomodoros different types of tasks take

Tip: If 25 minutes feels too short or too long, experiment with different durations. Some people work better with 50-minute sessions and 10-minute breaks.
